Evelyn did okay today. She got very worked up when NP Diane put in her butterfly. She was fighting us. Kev and I had to hold her down. Then it took her awhile to calm down. She's never acted like that before. Mentally, it was easier on her and us when we came every week. She was very worried about the big bandaid that goes on top and it hurting when it comes off. Nurse Nancy gave her the medicine today - V+ and A drugs. (Karen was on vacation). She let Nurse Nancy take the bandaid off without trying to help. It went really smoothly. E "purred" when it was done. Her new thing is purring when she is happy. It is really sweet.
Other than the episode with her butterfly, she did great. She has gained 1 1/4 pounds in the last three weeks! A whopping 32 1/4 lbs :) Her counts looked really good. We were there a LONG time. She helped decorate the clinic lobby for Halloween. She did Halloween Art in the ArtQuest room. Her little friend CiCi was inpatient. They did art together. CiCi is the little girl who was in the hospital room next to us when all of this started. (Evelyn took her first steps after surgery to round the corner and see CiCi). They are the same age and both troupers!
We discussed a tentative plan for the next several weeks. We go back in 10 days for blood work. Then 11/2 for the last treatment. The week after Thanksgiving will be the scans (X-ray and Ultrasound) to get the OK to officially end her chemo. We are hoping to see Dr Turner the same visit for pre-op. Then before the end of December, have the surgery to remove her port! Following is a whole schedule for scans, bloodwork, etc. for who knows how long. We will get that at the end of November.
After clinic, we went to Target for a special treat - she picked out a Drs kit, equipped with a beeper and everything. She may be a Princess Doctor one of these days afterall!
What an amazing journey! My thoughts and prayers remain with all of you.
