Hospital, sweet moments

The eight days in the hospital weren't all bad, there were a few funny and sweet moments.

When we were at the first hospital for the x-ray and CT scan, there were two things that were funny in the midst of the nervousness, scaredness, etc... First, when we went back to the x-ray, we told her they were going to take a picture of her bones, like on a very recent episode of Bubble Guppies we had watched 100x. The first x-ray was standing up. She tilted her head and smiled. (It was so cute. A total ham for the camera). We told her it was done and she said, "It didn't take my picture!" (no flash). We had to convince her it had actually taken her picture. The other funny, she was so worked up about getting the IV in her hand (the first one she jerked her hand and blew the vein) that before the second try, they gave her something to relax. It took just a few minutes, she went limp in my arms and started cracking us up! She said "Mommy, be sad." (when i stick my bottom lip out). Then she took her limp hand, swatted at my lip and said "Don't be sad. Don't be sad. Hah, hah." It was great happy juice.

Then, onto Brenner's. In pre-op, they gave her a little more powerful happy juice so she wouldn't get so much anxiety about leaving us. (Actually, she made me administer the medicine in her IV, under careful supervision). It took only seconds to work and she got a glazed look on her face and just started laughing. I don't know where her happy place was, but she was there and enjoying it.

After the surgery, once we were settled into the step-down unit, just before her initial fading back to sleep she said, "I love you mommy." It was the sweetest thing I've ever heard. I'm tearing up now remembering it and writing about it.
