Treatment #5

E is getting to be a pro at going for treatment. Today she got on the scale all by herself (we have been weighing together and subtracting my weight.). She lost half of what she had gained, but they aren't concerned. Then she asked for nurse Karen to "hurry up and fix her up so I can go home!"

Nurse Karen thinks E is a hoot because she wants to do it all herself. Take off her band aids, push in the medicine, take her blood to the "rocket ship" that delivers blood to the lab.

If all goes well, about a month after her treatment ends, she will have the port a cath surgically removed. This was good news! By Christmas she will be healing up and hopefully not have any more cutting done. The follow-up after chemotherapy will be X-rays and ultrasounds for a certain period of time to make sure no tumors are growing.

The picture is E with nurse Karen. The device they use to access the port looks like a little butterfly. Some days she calls it "Ariel." Other days she calls it "Flounder." Nice names for her friend that is helping her get all better. Kevin and I think it is interesting it looks like a little butterfly. Another way Declan is helping his little friend from Heaven and keeping her safe. Once they put in the needle, the "wings" go down to lock it in place and it has a tube for the IV access.
