Yesterday afternoon E started saying the TV was "fuzzy." We called the
doctor and
they said it isn't a normal side effect for her treatment. Her hands and feet
have been "hurting" for several days. That is normal. We gave her Tylenol and
waited to see if it helped.
A few hours later: the tv, pictures, books were all still "fuzzy." Called the
doctor back and he wanted us to go to the ER at Brenners to get her blood
counts checked. Apparently if platelets drop low enough, her retina could
detach, making her vision blurry. Not typical on her protocol but better to get
it checked.
As soon as we told her we were going to the doctor everything stopped being fuzzy...
Of course.
We were in the ER at Brenners by 7:30ish. The short version is they drew blood,
she did not like it, her counts came back fine. The slightly longer
version is that the idiot nurse came in and asked me if it was okay to access her
port for blood. Why in the world would she ask me if it was okay to perform
a medical procedure like that? Don't they have protocol for taking care if cancer
patients at the children's cancer hospital?? I told her to call our
oncologist. She left the room and I called him. Why did we go all the way to
Brenners for them to not be coordinating with the oncologist? Anyway.
We left around 11p and headed home. She seems fine today. We are all just really
tired. Who knows what it could have been. Hopefully it has passed.
Picture: Once she got more comfortable in the ER room, she started playing
doctor with her stuffed animals: giving them shots, sewing up their boo boos, etc.
And singing the mommy song. "mommy mommy mommy mommy..."
